We have been working on our house for so long and we are so close to finishing! The longer I spend in the upstairs of our house the more I fall in love with it. If you are new here then you should know that we are building a home that I designed. We are putting an apartment inside the house for us and we will be renting out the rest of the house. That means that the plans we are going through today are the plans for the apartment that my husband and I will live in. We wanted both areas to be high quality and to contain good design. Since we are going to be living in the upstairs, we were able to customize it to our needs and our tastes.

Because we are unable to have a basement where we live, we put the apartment on the second floor. This turned out to be a great decision because we have an amazing view of the mountains, rather than a view of a window well. The entrance to the apartment is very simple. If I were to build another house I would definitely make a bigger entry way. When you enter you walk straight upstairs to the living room. We have a large open space with a living room, kitchen, and dining area. I wanted dark wood cabinets in our kitchen so badly. I spend hundreds of hours researching kitchen design, looking at cabinet manufacturers and choosing finishes for our kitchen. It is almost done and we will share more pictures soon!
We have a huge bedroom and closet. We are so grateful and excited for the space. We were able to put a fireplace in both the living room and the bedroom. This timeless style dates back to when fireplaces were actually used to heat the home. Before central heat, if you didn't have a heat source in your bedroom, then you would have many long sleepless nights. We shared all about the blue color that we chose for this bedroom in an earlier blog post. I am so excited for it to be finished and for me to be able to share more!
We have one more bathroom and a bedroom in our apartment. The second bedroom will function as an office space, guest bedroom and possibly a baby nursery in the future. It is so nice to have a space that can function as many things.
You may have noticed a third bedroom in our plans. This bedroom actually belongs to the main portion of the house. It will be occupied by our renters. We strategically designed this room to share a wall with our office. Because we won't use our office often, we shouldn't have an issue with sound transfer between units.
Again, we are so excited to finish this project and so excited to move in. Stay tuned for more updates!
